PUBLICATION ETHICS OF MESA JOURNAL

MESA is a scientific journal published twice a year, in October and March, by the Faculty of Engineering, University of Subang. The journal accepts manuscripts in the fields of Mechanical Engineering, Electronics Engineering, Civil Engineering, and Architecture. Articles can be written in either Bahasa Indonesia or English.

This publication ethics statement refers to the ethical code that applies to all stages of the publishing process in MESA. It regulates the responsibilities of journal managers, editors, reviewers, and authors based on the Head of LIPI Regulation No. 5 of 2014 concerning the Code of Ethics for Scientific Publications and COPE’s guidelines for journal editors.

  1. Author Responsibilities
  2. Reporting Standards

Authors must present original research results accurately and objectively, clearly indicating the significance and value of the work. All data used as the basis of the analysis must be presented in full and in an accurate manner. Sufficient details and references should be provided to allow replication of the research. Fabrication or manipulation of data is considered unethical and unacceptable.

  1. Data Access and Retention

Authors should be prepared to provide the raw data of their research for editorial review and must retain such data for a reasonable time (minimum of 12 months) after publication, in accordance with ALPSP-STM guidelines.

  1. Originality and Plagiarism

Authors must ensure that the submitted manuscript is entirely original. If other authors' work or words have been used, they must be appropriately cited or quoted. The manuscript must be submitted with the consent of all co-authors and must not violate the publication rules of the institution where the research was conducted.

  1. Multiple or Redundant Publication

Authors may not submit the same research to more than one journal or major publication simultaneously. Submitting the same manuscript to multiple journals concurrently is unethical and unacceptable.

  1. Acknowledgment of Sources

Proper acknowledgment of the work of others must always be given. Authors should cite influential publications relevant to the topic to contextualize their findings.

  1. Authorship and Contribution

Authorship should be limited to those who have made significant contributions to the research. Others who contributed in substantial ways should be listed as contributors. All authors must approve the final version of the manuscript. The corresponding author is responsible for all communications with the journal.

  1. Disclosure and Conflicts of Interest

All authors must disclose any financial or other substantive conflicts of interest that might influence the interpretation of their results. Sources of financial support must also be acknowledged.

  1. Fundamental Errors in Published Works

When an author discovers a significant error or inaccuracy in a published manuscript, they are obligated to promptly notify the editor or publisher and cooperate to retract or correct the paper.

  1. Allegations of Misconduct

Research misconduct includes fabrication, falsification, citation manipulation, or plagiarism in the research process or writing. In case of allegations, the Editor and Editorial Board will investigate the matter thoroughly. Manuscripts found to contain such misconduct will be rejected. If already published, a retraction notice will be issued.

MESA has clear procedures for handling complaints against the journal, editorial board, or publisher. Complaints may include issues such as editorial bias, citation manipulation, or unethical peer-review processes. All complaints will be addressed following COPE guidelines.

  1. Conflict of Interest

Conflicts of interest must be declared in the manuscript under a "Disclosure" section. Authors should state clearly if no conflict exists.

  1. Journal Management

If an author wishes to withdraw a manuscript before publication, a written request with a clear reason must be submitted to the Editor-in-Chief via email. Withdrawal is subject to editorial approval.

If a withdrawal is requested after publication, authors must provide valid justification and supporting evidence. Withdrawal after publication is only possible with Editorial Board consent.

  1. Post-Publication Discussions and Corrections

If a correction to the author’s affiliation is needed after publication, a formal erratum will be issued and linked to the original article. The correction must clarify that the affiliation was omitted from the original manuscript but reflects the current and actual affiliation. MESA encourages all authors to include their ORCID ID to simplify future affiliation updates.
